Peru, Cervecera Del Sur, Cusqueña Imported Beer (Peru) This beer may already be familiar to backpacking beer lovers who have followed the Inca trail. Indeed, the beer has been brought to the UK by two young Mancunian entrepreneurs who discovered it that way. Cusque?a (pronounced ?kus-ken-ya?) is a lager-style beer, which claims to give no hangover because of its purity, that comes from Cusco, the Inca capital in the Machu Picchu mountain range. It is made using an Andean water source at 18,000 feet. The brewery supports the country?s poor by paying a proportion of all profits to a local charity. Cusque?a pours a fine gold colour with a moderate white head. It is immediately fresh and very clean, with none of the sweetcorn aromas of cheaper lagers, but a gentle hoppiness and citrussy background. On the palate it is refreshing, crisp and has a real bit of bite. A very good example of this style.
