Cairngorm Brewery

Cairngorm Brewery, Black Gold (Scotland)
The cask version was the champion beer of Scotland in 2005, and SIBA's champion UK stout. It pours jet black with the merest hint of tawny against the light, and a creamy, tan coloured head. The nose is classic, with liquorice and burnt, charcoally toast aromas, a hint of espresso and some damson fruit. On the palate it is full and creamy, with a fine bittersweet character showing lots of burnt, charry malt, more of that Pontefract cake darkness and just a hint of a plum and plumskin bitter fruit quality. It is clean and beautifully balanced. 4.4% ABV, 50cl, 1.99, brewery website, Beersofeurope.
Cairngorm Brewery, Trade Winds (Scotland)
(RP) A new wave Scottish beer brewed with barley malt, wheat and elderflower. The hop varieties are not disclosed. It is extremely pale in colour with a superb spicy, floral and herbal aroma, dominated by fresh elderflower. Dry biscuity malt, spicy hops and ripe elderflowers dominate the palate. The bitter-sweet finish is dry and herbal with floral and bitter hop notes. 4.3% ABV, 50cl, 2.00, brewery website.
