Meantime, Greenwich Hospital Porter (England)
Brewed by Meantime for M&S; winter 2011, this is a Porter aged in Islay 12-Year-Old Single Malt oak barrels for four months. It pours an appealing black with mahogany at the core and a pillowing, cappuccino-coloured
head. The nose offers treacle and Pontefract cakes, with plenty of roasted grain and a hint of something plummy. In the mouth it is rich without being particularly thick, which helps keep this nicely sharp and
nimble, with very good acidity and a twist of serious bitterness offsetting all that smoky, swirling depth of chocolate and fudge. A fine Porter with bags of chewy depth but crispness too. 6.0% ABV, 75cl, 9.99,
Marks & Spencer. Note: this is a seasonal beer and stocks might be limited. | |
