Cains, Cains Double Bock (England)
(RP) Under Bavarian law, a Bock beer must be at least 6.4% alcohol, while a stronger Double Bock weighs in a 6.9%. Cains Double Bock is even stronger, weighing an impressive 8% on the brewers? Richter Scale. Pale malt is blended with darker Munich malt, a variety that also gave the distinctive amber colour to the city?s famous Marzen or March beers. The hops are Czech Saaz and Bavarian Hallertauer. Double Bock has an entrancing amber colour and a superb aroma of bitter oranges, cobnuts, Dundee cake and hop resins. In the mouth, the beer is bitter-sweet, with biscuity malt, tangy fruit and a gentle but persistent hop bitterness. The finish is long, deep and complex, with hints of vanilla, liquorice, oranges, nuts and juicy malt, all underscored by bitter hops. The finish is bitter-sweet to start but finally becomes dry. Malt: high. Fruit: medium to high. Hops: medium to high. 8.0% ABV, 50cl, 2.79 - 2.99, Booth's, independents.
